hey dr.b i have a 6 year old son who is bi-racial white/african american. i noticed a few monthes ago he had a few white spots on his cheek area on his face i thought maybe it was from the sun. and then yesterday he started to complain that he was itchy in his testicale area. well just now he showed me where it is itchy and on the side of his testicales are a few of these white spots. they are not raised or bumpy or anyhing all he says is they itch a little bit. what could me going on? does he need to be seen? just in case it matters skin cancer runs in my family. thanks lindasay hill
It could be a fungal infection, pityriasis alba, or eczema. He'll need at least an antifungal cream and maybe a steroid cream as well. It wouldn't be skin cancer.
