My 7 year old son still has occasional issues with BM accidents. After some research into encopresis and working with him to make passing a stool more comfortable and on a more regular schedule, I wonder if he's misinterpreting his body's indicator sensations. It seems as though he ignored them for so many years in order to withhold stool to avoid a painful bowel movement that perhaps he doesn't know how to tell if he has to go unless it's on the way out. Does that sound plausible? And what do I do about it? How do I re-train him?
Thanks!
