mommyB New-Baby Registered: 03/03/10 Posts: 25 Loc: Texas	Hi, I have a four month old and he has what may be a cold sore on his lip. I'm not too sure how to tell if it is a cold sore. How would I tell? His father gets them often. What can I do to prevent cold sores in the future? Could him drooling and always having his hands in his mouth irritate the sores? What can I put on it? Dr. B Wise-Teacher Registered: 07/25/01 Posts: 12826	Hi, A cold sore will cross the border between the lip and the skin. Once you get them you cannot prevent them. That's why anyone with a cold sore should not get their sore near another person. Once you get the sore you can use antivirals like Valtrex or zovirax ointment. At 4 months of age, you can use the zovirax ointment or Neosporin. _________________________ Dr. Bornstein
